If only I read this blog before I accepted a contract from MindBlossom AKA Isobar.
I worked on freelance basis in July 2009, sent an invoice on Aug 10, 2009 and have not gotten paid until now. The PM that I deal with is nice and always response to my emails asking when I am going to get paid, but no payment so far.

I've never had payment problem with other agencies I work for, but this one, man! If you don't respect your vendors, soon enough, nobody respect your business.

I love this weblog! and I love what you wrote on it! THANK YOU!

Please add to this: why those "pieces of shit" called Mindblossom people still owe money to Robert Half Technology!
I have never seen such a "company" (if you want to call this "a company"), with such number of turnovers!!!

Those people disgust me! And I never sank (& will never) sink to their levels!

I just wanted to say that those responsible for the poor conduct at the company are still there and are still running the show. V and D, the couple who run the operation now, or VD as I like to refer to them as, have run everyone who was ever good for the company out the door. And just so you know this issue of not paying is a tactic for D to keep his grubby little hands on the money for himself and his fat cow wife.

No where else have I heard of such stories, nor experienced such abhorrent behavior - essentially they steal the work, by complaining that the quality is not good enough and then they turn around and use it, without ever having to compensate those who did the work.

Nonetheless, I believe they will get what they deserve, because this kind of behavior cannot proceed forever - I hope those affected by this will also get their compensation one day!

This is a great article we (the photo community) should set up a blog to report these problems because they happen all too often.

this whole situation blows and as for Mindblossom, what a joke...use the services of a professional photographer and completely blow them off...WTF is up with people/companies these days???

I am dealing with a Pittsburgh based company right now that contacted me about using a particular image for a proposal, they could only pay a very low fee for the use of my copyrighted image...after giving the idea some thought and originally saying "yes" I decided not to allow them the use of the image for any commercial reason, I simply did not feel "right" about having the image in question used for commercial reasons; it was my prerogative not to allow them use of the image.

They downloaded a low res copy of the image originally (from the web) and sent it to me in the email with their request of use...they ended up using that low res file after I said "no thank you", I did not send the high res TIFF file as they requested. I received a check in the mail for teh low $ amount they said they'd pay last week and I pissed they went right ahead and used my copyrighted image w/out my expressed consent, and to boot, they used a poor quality low res file they "stole" off the Internet.

I sent an email to two of the firm's founders and the employee who originally contacted me stating my displeasure of the illegal use of my image and the infringement over copyright, I asked for a call so we could speak and resolve the matter, I mentioned I wanted to speak PRIOR to contacting a lawyer about what I can do about this matter.

And no call was ever placed.

So, I will do the only thing left, contact a lawyer and sue them. I tried to work it out, be the better person and not use a legal option right off the bat, but I suppose they'd rather waste more money on lawyers and the legal process than do the right thing.

I have been working in stop-motion animation and VFX for over seven years, and this piece is excellent. Far superior to most of the animation done for film and television, never mind web ads. It is disgraceful the way companies like "Mindblossom" exploit artists. Shame on them. Jessica, I hope you bankrupt these losers.

I am very saddened to hear about this. I know the photographer, Jessica and IMNSHO, she's an incredible photographer. It must be awful for her to have to go through such an ordeal (I’ve been there too). Unfortunately this is an all too common occurrence for contractors and freelancers. I hope it all works out for her.

As for the quality of the work, I think it looks great, especially for an animated GIF. I am an Art Director & Designer and have done similar work in the past and I give it two thumbs up no matter what Mindblossom may be saying. I fail to see what problem there could possibly be with the quality of this. I also noticed this is an animated set of photographs and not computer generated graphics making this even more of an incredible feat to accomplish. I’d love to see the high-res photos although based o my past knowledge of her work I have little doubt they are also top quality -- that girl is obsessed with photography.

As an Art Director/Technology Director I often contract new media services from companies like Mindblossom (although I’ve never heard of them before this). I will definitely NOT hire Mindblossom in the future and will be sure to discourage any of my clients, colleagues and associates from doing so.

Good Luck, Jess!!! Hang in there.
